Eks – EksM

This is the first proper album of Eks, beatmaker from Naples, south Italy. More a cohesive work than a collection of beats, “EksM” ranges from obscure beatmaking, oriental meditative confusion and tons of vinyl hiss. The approach to sampling is here more indebted with tape manipulation than with the “regular” Hip Hop method, but the roots are equally strong in both the practice. Instead of focusing on one or two sonic goals, the songs – after all they’re properly – disperse itself in a large amount of moods, but their unity is the whole sound chamber, hazy and in the red.
