On March 21, 1991, Henderson again recorded for Red Records, this time producing The Standard Joe at the Sear Sound recording studio in New York City, with bassist Rufus Reid replacing Haden. Three songs from the session touch base with Henderson’s halcyon Blue Note days — Blue
Bossa comes from Page One, Henderson’s debut
as a leader on Blue Note in 1963 that became a jam session staple around the world. In ’n Out, an altered modal blues, is from his April 1964 album of the same name while Inner Urge is from his November 1964 album of the same name and has a melody mainly derived from the Lydian Major 7th Flat 5 Chord.
