Outstanding rhythmic ingenuity and possessed electronic sound design from Belgrade’s kӣr, debuting on Don’t DJ’s expertly programmed Disk label. Tapping into the same sort of occultish dancefloor nous as fellow Belgrade son, Vladimir Ivkovic, the “Balčak” EP presents kӣr as a real master of slow, viscous rhythms and psychedelic electronics comparable to Coil. It’s a fact subtly highlighted in the sleeve artwork of Orthodox Christian symbology and palimpsest style layering that reflects the accreted folklore and unique culture rom this region, which all perhaps offers some explanation of why he sounds so different to practically everyone else out there right now.
