MIKE & THE MELVINS – Three Men And A Baby
Sub Pop recovers this work and sends us back twenty years to a fat and round sound, dirty and emphatic, smelly and maximalist just as it used to in the days of “grunge”. Only here there is not much trace of “poppy” condescension or sixties legacy revisited in slacker mode, indeed almost not at all, since they are sound depravity and grim noise-rock and big cock to be the masters. It is no coincidence that the historic Buzzo / Crover coupled with that height was the bass / voice of Kevin Rutmanis of the Cows: as if to say, a guarantee of madness and musical insanity.
