The album “Africa / Brass” was one of Coltrane’s most ambitious projects and represents his first collaboration with Eric Dolphy (here in the guise not only of musician, but also of arranger and conductor), as well as his first album with a big band. The orchestra features an extremely original instrumentation that includes four French horns, a tuba, two euphoniums, two trumpets, three saxophonists and a rhythm section with two bassists.
